Bulgaria is a multiparty republic with a parliamentary system, where the president is head of state and the prime minister is the head of government. Executive power is exercised by the government (where in France, it is exercised by the president), while legislative power is shared between the government and the National Assembly (where in France, it is shared between National Assembly and Senat).

The country is a republic until 1990. The 5 presidents are Jeliou Jelev (1990-1997), Petar Stoyanov (1997-2002), Gueorgui Parvanov (2002-2012), Rossen Plevneliev (2012-2017).

Roumen Radev is the actual president.

Bulgaria in European Union

In 2007, Bulgaria entered the European Union. Even though this country suffered a lot during the 2008 economic crisis, the fact that they entered the EU helped them a lot in terms of surviving the crisis. Indeed, it made a big difference, especially on the enonomic aspect : the growth of the country has increased, new opportunities for entrepreneurship were created, and the competitiveness of Bulgaria was improved.

Bulgaria, Bridge between Europe Union and Russia

Bulgaria is linked with Russia. As much economically as politically. This historical proximity makes Russia and Bulgaria two old sisters. Thereby, Bulgaria has a strategic position for conversations between Europe and Russia.
